Driving in the winter season can be a stressful and dangerous endeavor. Whether it is an experienced parent who wants to protect the family on the way to school and at weekend events or a young novice who must navigate the streets of Pittsburgh during finals week, solid defensive driving skills are an excellent tool for anyone in Pennsylvania. At Ultimate Defensive Driving School, our professional instructors use proven methods that give our Pittsburgh driving graduates the experience and confidence needed to face snow and ice. Included in this article is just a small fraction of knowledge we impart on all of our students

The basics of driving in winter weather conditions

Several fundamental key points are shared at Pittsburgh Driving School that acts as a foundation for the skills we teach our students. Some of these points include leaving three times more space than normal between a driver’s vehicle and the cars in front of it. This allows more room to stop, which is extremely handy in slippery situations. Another important tip is to never use cruise control or overdrive when traveling on icy highways. A driver should always have as much manual control as possible to help in staying safe. When it comes to hills and gaining traction, we teach our drivers that low gears keep traction better. We will also share professional driving secrets about where the safest areas of the road to drive are and skills for making turns on slippery surfaces.

The advanced knowledge we add

Our classes not only include the basic knowledge from above, but also build to advanced driving skills that include what to do when rear tires begin to skid, a vehicle gets stuck and strategies that can save a driver’s life if they find themselves stranded. At Pittsburgh’s most prestigious drivers ed program, students learn advanced driving strategies for handling ice-covered bridges, what dangers to stay alert for in a snow storm and proactive measures for giving drivers the safest driving experience possible every time they turn the ignition.

Defensive driving is a very important attribute to have proficiency in. At Ultimate Defensive Driving School, we have a number of programs for our clients to choose from that prepare them not only for icy road conditions, but also for hazards such as debris after a storm, dangerous driving practices of other drivers and many strategies that can help drivers of all experience levels. No other defensive driving program in the state has knowledgeable and professional instructors who use decades of experience to answer the tough questions every driver asks. We understand the required knowledge that customers need in a Pittsburgh driver ed program and use that foundation to build our advanced drivers to the comfort level they desire. Contact us today and discover why so many people are choosing Ultimate Defensive Driving School for their educational needs. We guarantee that after our program, graduated students will walk out of our doors confident and prepared for whatever weather comes to Pittsburgh.
